Punishment for being non patriotic

Let’s get something right…not singing the national anthem may not make one less patriotic than the armed forces during national crisis. It is just that everyone has a difference way of showing it. Patriotism includes electing a group of people to form a stable Government. Now these same elected people are saying that the rakyat are not patriotic enough and so, they need to sing the national anthem at selected functions, otherwise they will be punished.

How more you can discourage patriotism than doing something like this.

On the brighter side, the Govt finally agreed that singing the national anthem before movie screenings is not appropriate. I can imagine how the response would be if this was enforced.

The Backbenchers' Club chairman Datuk Shahrir Samad probably would have nailed the reaction against the Govt’s move by saying “After 48 years of independence, why are we still so insecure about the loyalty of the rakyat?” he said (note: by the way, he has a blog but it has not been updated for sometime…sad. Perhaps he should be a patriotic and update it)

So, are you a patriotic and willing to be punished?
